The Girls from Ames

On Monday June 7th, our book club met at my (Kim's) house. Although we ran out of time before really discussing the book, we did have great conversation about family and friendship. I guess that counts! It was a fantastic way to start summer vacation!

For this meeting we read The Girls from Ames......a true story of 40+ year friendships between 11 women that originated in their childhoods during the 70's, growing up in the 80's, and sharing the joys and despairs of adulthood through today. An entertaining read about the value of friendship.

See you next month!

Still Alice

Our book club met on April 26th to discuss Still Alice by Lisa Genova. I was very happy to see almost everyone could make it, plus one lovely new face. We welcomed a new member, Neeta, who is friends with Chitra. After meeting her and learning about her family, it was discovered that my son and her son are the same age and attend the same school. Imagine that!

Since it was my turn to host, I worked hard at finding a place to accommodate our large (and sometimes noisy) group. I ended up choosing The Long Grove Cafe. What a perfect place to meet a group of great women for a book discussion. Next time, we will go in the summer and sit out on the patio overlooking the lake. We had great service, yummy food and as always, thought provoking discussions. Although Kenny Cheseny was unable to make it (from my dream the night before), we still had a great time.

Everyone seem to enjoy the book and found it to be a must read for anyone! It really made us all examine the aging process and how scary Alzheimer's can be for anyone affected by this horrible disease.

We discussed our KIVA loan and I said I would choose the next group to lend our money to. What a positive experience this was the first time and I can't wait to choose another worthy group of people and help them make their business dreams come true. I will post a link to our group once I have made a choice.

Welcome!

Welcome to the online journal of the most fantastic book club in Lake Zurich! We have been meeting for about three years and have finally decided to share our thoughts with others. Our group currently includes eleven beautiful ladies from the Lake Zurich area who meet about once every six weeks. The hostess for the meeting chooses the book and place to meet.

This past Monday we met at a wonderful little coffee shop in historic Long Grove (pictured to the right). Beans and Leaves was the perfect setting for our book discussion on Loved Walked In by Marisa de los Santos.
We enjoyed great discussion, delicious drinks and yummy treats provided by this month's hostess, Patty. It was after this meeting that we decided to "go public" with our group and keep a written record of the happenings of this wonderful group.
